Reneé Walker Gunkel

FOUNDER, ATTORNEY AT LAW

  • Reneé has practiced law in Southwest Oklahoma since 1987, establishing her own firm in Downtown Altus, in December of 1988. She has served clients, friends, and military personnel in family law, estate planning, real estate, and other areas for over 30 years.

    Reneé and her husband, Mickey, have been married for over 30 years and have two sons, Preston and Dalton, a daughter-in-law, Sarah, and a handsome new grandson, Sterling.

    She is very proud of her strong roots in southwest Oklahoma, established by her parents Neta and Nolan Walker.

  • Reneé graduated valedictorian from Navajo High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Oklahoma State University. While attending OSU, she was named “Who’s Who,” Mortar Board, and Top Ten. Reneé was also a member of Chi Omega Fraternity and the President’s Leadership Class.

    She went on to receive her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

    Reneé is also a proud recipient of the Jackson County 4-H Alumni Award.

  • Reneé values the opportunity to have lived and worked in the community in which she was raised.

    She is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Altus and former member of the Western Oklahoma State College Board of Regents. Reneé has also served in various volunteer positions throughout her children's education in the Altus school system.

Preston M. Gunkel

PARTNER, ATTORNEY AT LAW

  • A sixth generation Jackson County resident, born and raised in Altus, Preston practices in his family’s firm. He focuses on estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate and family law. He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Jackson County Bar Association.

  • Preston graduated valedictorian from Altus High School and continued his education at the University of Oklahoma receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. During his time at the University of Oklahoma, Preston was involved in various leadership roles including the President’s Leadership Class and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

    He was a cum laude graduate of the Oklahoma City University School of Law. While attending OCU as a Hatton W. Sumners Scholar, Preston was a member of the Oklahoma City University Law Review, received a Certificate in Estate Planning and earned three CALI awards for academic excellence.

  • Preston is a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus, graduate of Leadership Altus VII and continues his leadership and civic involvement as a member of Leadership Oklahoma Class 36, Altus Military Affairs Committee, Rotary Club of Altus, Altus Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, Southwest Technology Center Foundation Board and as a United States AirForce Air Education Training Command Civic Leader. He serves as the Board of Directors President for Main Street Altus, and Vice President of the Jackson County Bar Association.

    Preston previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, the Altus/Southwest Area Economic Development Board of Directors, an Honorary Commander with the 97 AMW Altus Air Force Base, JA, and the Stephen E. Booker Child Advocacy Center Board of Directors. He is an avid college football fan and enjoys travel.

Cassity B. Gies

PARTNER, ATTORNEY AT LAW

  • Cassity B. Gies is an experienced family law attorney with a passion for all family law matters.

    She credits life experiences outside of the courtroom as the source for her passion and approaches family law with a mindful eye on the motivations and values that matter most to her clients. Cassity’s time as an Oklahoma foster parent led her to law school and she especially carries a torch for protecting children. Her experience in immigration, domestic abuse, and juvenile law provide a comprehensive understanding of collateral issues touching family law.

    Raised on a family farm outside of Carmen, Oklahoma, she considers her family to be her most proud accomplishment and credits her six children as the absolute light of her life. Outside of her role as lawyer, she spends her time going overboard decorating for the holidays and daydreaming to Taylor Swift, Beatles, Willie Nelson, Aerosmith. When not in the courtroom, she can be found at football games, wrestling tournaments, cheer competitions, and riding shotgun with her husband Donny – also an attorney.

  • Cassity graduated Suma Cum Laude from Oklahoma City University School of Law, earning seven CALI awards for Academic Excellence. She was a Hatton W. Sumners Scholar and received the J. William Congers Distinguished Student Award for her graduating class.

    During law school, she completed the Oklahoma Interdisciplinary Training Program on Child Abuse and Neglect, and championed for the reinstatement of the Child Abuse and Neglect program as a practicum course at OCU Law.

    Cassity began her law career at Mazaheri Law Firm before joining Phillips Murrah Family Law Group in 2019. She then went on to become Partner at Gunkel Law Group in 2023, and is now overseeing their new Oklahoma City office.

    Cassity was awarded the designation of a 2023 SuperLawyer.

  • Cassity currently serves on the Campfire International Board of Directors and is a former 2022 United Way Board Serve Member.

Brian D. Bush

ATTORNEY AT LAW

  • Born and raised in Altus, Oklahoma, Brian Bush holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Harding University and the degree of Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He and his wife Becca have two children: Tyler and Melynn.

  • Brian is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, Family Law Section, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, and focuses primarily in the areas of family law and criminal law. His skill set allows him to work well with litigants to achieve positive outcomes, and he is often appointed by local judges to represent the best interests of children. As a former Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma City, Brian has extensive trial experience and knowledge of the Oklahoma criminal justice system. Brian also consults with military members and dependents on landlord/tenant rights, advocates for service members and their families, and acts as a liaison to assist with issue resolution and expediting services. He has experience in building coalitions and working with policy makers to enact policy changes at the state and federal levels, and he has worked for causes and candidates in elections and strategy.

    Brian has designed and delivered programs that have been featured on CNN, Fox News, and affiliates of ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. These programs include Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks, training young leaders from around the world; Peace Through Business Rwanda, working with emerging women business leaders from Rwanda; Complex Dialogues, studying incarceration rates and criminal justice in Oklahoma, a program which resulted in legislative reform at the state level; and the Oklahoma Sports Leadership Academy, working with professional and college athletes to help develop the next generation of leaders.

  • Brian is an elder of the Elm & Hudson Church of Christ, Jackson County Bar Association President-Elect, Harding University National Alumni Network President, and is a member of various boards. He is a two-time winner 2020 and 2021 Southwest Oklahoma’s “12:10 To The Top” 12 Most Influential Leaders. Brian has also been previously honored as Harding University Outstanding Young Alumnus (2015), Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Award (2011), OKCBiz 40 Under 40 (2009), and Edmond Sun “20 Under 35” (2008).

Lori Anderson

PARALEGAL

  • Lori has been with the Firm since 2000. A native of Altus, she graduated from Altus High School and enjoyed a 20 year career in banking where she gained valuable experience in real estate and business transactions. As a paralegal, Lori serves clients and friends in all areas of practice. She is an active member of First Baptist Church of Altus, a prior member of the Altus Schools Parent Teacher Organizations and was named an Altus High School class parent.

    Lori’s son Colby and his two children live in Altus. Lori’s daughter Caitlin, husband Kade and their three beautiful daughters live in Burleson, Texas.

Taylor Robinson

LEGAL ASSISTANT

  • Taylor is a fifth generation Oklahoman, born and raised in Hollis, Oklahoma. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science. Taylor is also a proud Kappa Delta Alumni – Nu Chapter PC ‘19

    She is also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hollis, Oklahoma.
